Cohabitation Investigations in Washington

If a shared living arrangement is disputed, we can document residence use, overnight patterns and relevant public records in Washington. Those findings do not automatically change maintenance or establish a committed intimate relationship. Your attorney assesses the order, financial circumstances and available legal remedy.

Documenting how a residence is used

Cohabitation Investigations

A cohabitation investigation examines patterns across agreed dates: arrivals, departures, overnight indicators and overlapping routines. We compare observations with lawful records and describe periods we could not observe. The aim is to establish what the evidence actually shows about residence use.

  • Examples: repeated overnight patterns, shared daily routines and records or observations that corroborate a location and date.
  • When this can help: a disputed residence claim in a maintenance review, spousal-support matter or other domestic dispute identified by counsel.
  • What you receive: dated residence-use notes, available photographs or video and supporting records, with observation gaps clearly identified.

Checking residence patterns from more than one source

Observation can show use of a home; records can help confirm identity or an address connection. Neither alone necessarily establishes the household’s financial arrangements.

Surveillance Services

Observe relevant arrivals, departures and overnight indicators from lawful locations over the agreed periods. Record isolated visits separately from repeated patterns.

Social Media Investigation Services

Preserve relevant public posts and authorized materials with dates, URLs and surrounding context. A post is checked against other evidence before drawing a residence inference.

Location Services

Check addresses and residence leads through available records and observation, distinguishing an address association from confirmed current use.

Background Check Services

Review relevant public property, business and court records for address or household connections. A record link does not by itself prove who lives together.

Planning, costs and your report

We review the residence claim, relevant order and known routines before agreeing on observation periods or records research.

  • First conversation: Your first consultation is free and lasts 30 minutes. Additional communication outside the agreed task is $150/hour, prepaid separately; communication already included in the task is not charged again.
  • Planning and scheduling: Most plans are developed within 48 hours once the necessary facts, locations and restrictions are clear. We confirm the assignment and schedule by text and email; tell us about any hearing or other deadline before booking.
  • Costs: Lite is $150 per investigator-hour; Heavy is $300 per investigator-hour. Preparation and report writing each cost $150/hour. Round-trip travel from our Tacoma office is $2.50/minute. Other time is billed in whole hours, with partial hours rounded up. Each purchased service hour carries $15 in expense credit for Lite or $30 for Heavy. Credits on hours used for your task cover only that task's expenses; any remainder expires at report delivery. Expenses are charged at cost. Applicable surcharges are separate dollar charges, not deductions from service hours. We confirm the work, schedule and prepaid costs by text and email. See Pricing for unused-time, credit, specialist and other fee terms.
  • Your report: The report describes residence use on the dates covered, supporting records and media, and what could not be established. Reports are due by 9 p.m. Pacific on the next business day after the task finishes, including return travel. Completion after midnight uses that new calendar date. Business days exclude weekends and the specified federal holiday periods, including the day before and after each holiday. Faster delivery costs $300 per report only when requested and accepted, plus report-writing time. We notify you of schedule changes caused by approved additional report work or priority delays.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cohabitation Investigations in Washington

Does an overnight visit prove cohabitation?

No. We look for repeated residence-use indicators and corroborating records over the dates agreed. A visit or parked vehicle alone does not prove continuous cohabitation, shared finances or a change in support.

How do you choose observation dates?

We review known routines, the period in dispute, lawful observation opportunities and your budget. The agreed schedule defines what can be documented; findings state the dates covered and any gaps.

What updates and findings will I receive?

We agree on communication at the start. Findings distinguish an unconfirmed lead, an observed visit and a repeated pattern, so you and your authorized attorney can assess whether more work would be useful.

Which residence claim needs checking?

Provide the known addresses, relevant dates and the statement you want verified. We can explain which records or observations may help and the limits of the proposed task.
